Novi Middle School is here to assist in making the middle school years positive and productive. Working together, we can make the years valuable and exciting ones that will provide everyone with fond memories, a high regard for education, and a love for learning. Our teachers understand that in order for middle school children to enjoy the learning process, they must feel understood, secure and loved. We are a school committed to cultivating the growth and development of the whole child in an atmosphere of caring.

Arrival/Dismissal

At Novi Middle School we expect students to arrive at school on time.  School starts at 8:30 a.m., and we dismiss at 3:11 p.m.

Students either ride the bus, get dropped-off or picked-up by a parent or guardian, or walk to and from school.  Please read the relevant information expectations depending on your student's category.

Bus

  • The bus loop is on the east side of the building.
  • Students riding the bus will be dropped off in the bus loop and will allowed off the bus at 8:10 a.m.
  • At dismissal students exit to bus loop and get on the busses as they arrive.
  • If you need additional information, please contact our Transportation Department at 248-449-1245.

Drop-off/ Pick-Up

The drop-off/ pick-up zone is the front, west side of the building.  

  • Pull forward all the way: Stay single file and in the right lane. Drop-off can occur anywhere there is a sidewalk.
  • Be Alert:  Be ready, and have the kids ready to exit the vehicle with their backpacks, etc...  Please save texts and phone calls until after drop-off or pick-up!
  • Walk:  Kids need to walk up to the school building.  Please do not park and walk across the parking lot.
  • Safety first:  It takes teamwork to make the dream work!  At arrival, students can enter the building at 8:10 a.m.  At dismissal, students should exit the building and be picked up on the west side of the building.

Walker

The Novi Community School District policy states that if you reside within walking distance of the school your child attends, then your child is expected to walk. One mile or under is considered the "walk zone" for the middle school.

Rob Baker

 

Principal 

Robert Baker has been the Principal at Novi Middle School since 2018. This year, he is the primary point of contact for the 7th grade.  He was previously an assistant principal at Novi High School from 2011-2018.  From 2005 - 2011 Mr. Baker taught Spanish, Civics, Economics, International Relations and IB Theory of Knowledge.  Mr. Baker holds a BA from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in Spanish and Organizational Studies, an MA in International Studies from the George Washington University, an MA in Education from the MAC program at the University of Michigan, and and Ed. S. from Eastern Michigan University in Educational Leadership.  Mr. Baker is a proud husband and father of twin girls.  Contact Principal Baker or call at 248-449-1602.

Angie Southworth

 

Assistant Principal

Angie Southworth has been a part of the Novi Community School District since 2006 and returns to Novi Middle School as Assistant Principal for the 2022-2023 school year. She was previously the Novi High School Dean of Students. She taught in the language department for 13 years at Novi Middle School, before serving as Dean of Students for two years. Ms. Southworth earned her BA in French from Michigan State University and pursued a Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Madonna University.  She completed her Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Oakland University in 2016. Ms. Southworth is a proud Novi graduate herself and enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters. Contact Assistant Principal Southworth or call at 248-449-1607.

David Sinopoli-Smith

 

Dean of Students 

David Sinopoli-Smith is so excited to be a part of the Novi Community School District. He previously was a middle school science, math, and school leadership teacher in Dexter, MI. He also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer where he taught science, math, and English in a remote village in Western Africa. Mr. Sinopoli-Smith earned his BA in Secondary Integrated Science and Mathematics Education from the University of Michigan and received his Masters in School Leadership from Eastern Michigan University in 2020. Mr. Sinopoli-Smith enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, and spending quality time with his family.
