Student Passions & Interests

Students participating in the band course grow in their skills both in the classroom, but also by performing outside the classroom in concerts, solo and ensemble, and competitive festivals. Students may also elect to switch to an instrument that is needed in our band (bassoon, oboe, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, French horn, trombone, baritone or tuba). Students learn valuable team building skills, setting and meeting short and long term goals, individual responsibility, and many other lifelong lessons. Students who participate in a choir course grow in their singing skills in class, but also have numerous opportunities to perform throughout the year in school concerts, community concerts, District and State MSVMA Festival, MSVMA Solo and Ensemble Festival, and the Music in the Parks Competition /Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Students participating in an orchestra course grow in their skills of playing a stringed element both in the classroom, but also by performing outside the classroom in concerts, solo and ensemble festivals and community events. Students may also elect to switch instruments based on orchestral needs (viola, cello, and double bass). Chamber Club will meet in room 608 (Orchestra room) beginning in October. The club consists of both 7th and 8th grade orchestra students who are interested in learning new music and orchestra leadership outside of class.  These students get the opportunity to perform at events such as Light Up the Night Festival, the Middle School Variety Show and the Orchestra Final Concert!  For more information contact Samantha.Farmer@novik12.org

 Dance Club was created to introduce dance to middle school students. Dance Styles you will learn include: Hip Hop, Jazz, and Contemporary/Modern. We welcome anyone who wants to dance and offer classes for any level of dancer. Dance Club will meet after school on Mondays 3:30 - 4:30pm beginning in September.  They will perform at Basketball games and the High School Concerts in January and May.  Contact Ms. Zardus for more information at ashley.zardus@novik12.org

The Novi Middle School Golf Club has changed seasons! NMS Golf Club will now take place in October. There is a cap of 16 participants and spots are given on a first come first serve basis. Please email Mrs. Wesner at kimberly.wesner@novik12.org with questions. 

Jazz Band meets once or twice a week in room 606 (Band Room) .  The club consists of both 7th and 8th grade band students who would like to work on a new style of music outside of class.  Students will work on different jazz styles like swing, rock, and funk while also learning about improvisation.  These students get the opportunity to perform at events such as the Staff vs. Students Games, the Middle School Variety Show, and the Spring Band Concert!  For more information, contact Mr. Ronning.

Math Competition Club:  Math Competition Club is a year long club where both 7th and 8th graders who enjoy and excel at math, and are excited at the prospect of participating in math competitions, are encouraged to apply.  More information and dates about when applications will be released, deadlines, pre-test,etc. will be shared later in September. Please note that only the first 60 correctly completed applications will be accepted for the pre-test and the top 30 scorers from the test will be invited to join the club.  Meetings will be held on Thursdays starting in October.   If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Kang at  rachel.kang@novik12.org.

Science Olympiad is a team of students chosen to participate in Science Olympiad Tournaments throughout the schoolyear.  Students have the opportunity to explore a variety of topics including: Biology, Anatomy, Earth Science, Engineering, Physics, and many more.  Applications will be available inthe main office the first week of school and will be due the following Monday before 3:15PM to the main office. The Novi Middle School Ski & Snowboard Club aims to provide students with an engaging and enriching opportunity to learn and participate in skiing activities. With a focus on fostering camaraderie, physical fitness, and outdoor recreation, the club encourages students of varying skill levels to participate. Students will have the opportunity to take lessons and ski with friends through organized outings. The NMS Ski & Snowboard Club seeks to cultivate a passion for winter sports, instill confidence, and create lasting memories among its members. The Novi Middle School Ski & Snowboarding Club will begin in January. 8th grade Yearbook Staff: Be on the team that designs and creates a very special memory book of our year! This is a specialized A20 class where 8th graders learn about photography and design, and work collaboratively to create the NMS yearbook. Students submitted applications for this class in the spring of 7th grade.
